What Must Be Ready Before You Install an SOTF or DSP5 Switch?

A five position switch does not create or supply engine tunes. Your truck must already have a compatible multi tune calibration prepared for the correct tuning platform. Before ordering, verify the vehicle year, engine family, tuning software and ECM connection method. Duramax owners must select the exact LB7, LBZ or LMM, or LML version because the wire colors, ECM pin locations and supported tuning platforms are different. If you need a complete fuel injection wiring harness, relay box or fuse block, these switches are not the correct product type.

Are Evil Energy SOTF switch harnesses compatible with all car models?

No. Evil Energy SOTF and DSP5 switch wiring is vehicle and tuning platform specific. The current options cover selected 2010 to 2020 Dodge Ram 6.7L Cummins, 2011 to 2020 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke, and specified Chevy or GMC 6.6L Duramax applications. Match the vehicle year, engine family and tuning software before ordering. A matching connector does not confirm calibration compatibility.

Evil Energy SOTF and DSP5 switches provide access to five compatible custom tune positions from a cabin mounted rotary control. Depending on the selected product, features include a 6061 T6 aluminum knob, heat resistant wiring, protective split loom, color coded leads, application specific connectors and an installation guide. The switch only selects tunes that have already been written to the ECU or ECM. It does not create, download or modify a calibration by itself.

The installation method depends on the application. The Cummins option uses included connectors with the ECU fuel temperature sensor circuit and does not require wire cutting according to the product instructions. The Ford Powerstroke option includes two Posi Tap connectors and also does not require wire cutting. Duramax versions use application specific color coded leads connected to designated ECM pins, so they should not be described as a universal plug and play harness. Follow the instructions for the exact engine code.

Common wiring harness issues usually fall into five areas:

  1. Incorrect engine version
    The selected SOTF or DSP5 switch does not match the vehicle year, engine family or ECM configuration.
  2. Unsupported tuning platform
    The switch is connected to EFI Live, EZ LYNK or SCT software that the selected product does not support.
  3. Missing compatible calibration
    A compatible multi tune calibration has not been loaded into the ECU or ECM before the switch is installed.
  4. Incorrect or loose connection
    A lead is connected to the wrong ECM pin, a connector is not fully seated, or a Posi Tap connection is loose.
  5. Unsafe wire routing
    The wiring is routed too close to exhaust heat, sharp edges or moving components, increasing the risk of heat damage, abrasion or an intermittent signal.

If the switch does not change tune positions, check the system in this order:

  1. Confirm the vehicle year and engine version.
  2. Verify that the tuning platform is supported.
  3. Confirm that a compatible multi tune calibration has been loaded.
  4. Recheck every connector, ground and ECM pin location.
  5. Inspect the wiring for heat damage, abrasion or loose connections.

Do not replace the switch until the vehicle application, tuning compatibility and all electrical connections have been verified.
