Fuel banjo fittings provide a compact way to route fuel lines when a pump, tank, filter or regulator port sits close to the frame, firewall or another engine-bay component. Instead of stacking multiple elbow adapters, the banjo body allows the AN outlet to be positioned in the required direction before the banjo bolt is tightened. This helps reduce sharp hose bends, installation stress and unnecessary connection points.

The 37-degree AN male flare connects to a matching female AN hose end, while the center bore fits over a compatible banjo bolt. Ten AN-and-bore combinations are available from 3AN through 10AN for compact fuel, oil-cooling and compatible power-steering routing. These aluminum adapters are not intended for brake hydraulic systems.

How Do I Choose the Right Fuel Banjo Fitting?

Choose the two sides of the fitting separately. First, match the AN male outlet to the AN female hose end in your system. AN dash sizes are nominal line sizes, so the actual hose inside diameter may vary between PTFE, CPE and other hose constructions.

Next, match the banjo bore to a compatible banjo bolt. Do not select the bore by simply rounding the measured bolt diameter. Confirm the bolt’s nominal diameter, thread pitch, usable length and compatibility with the component port before ordering.

The nominal line sizes above are sizing references, not guaranteed hose inside diameters. The AN outlet must connect to a matching female AN hose end rather than directly to an unfinished hose.

What Should I Confirm Before Installation?

Fuel line size should be based on the engine’s fuel demand, fuel type, pump flow, system pressure and total line length. Although 6AN is common in many street EFI systems, it is not automatically correct for every EFI, carbureted or boosted application.

Before installation, also confirm whether the selected package includes the banjo bolt and sealing washers. A complete banjo connection normally requires the adapter, a compatible hollow banjo bolt and two new sealing washers. Follow the pump, tank, filter or regulator manufacturer’s torque specification, then pressure-test the completed system for leaks before operating the vehicle.
