AN size is based on nominal tube outside diameter in sixteenths of an inch. Actual hose inside diameter can vary by hose family, so confirm the selected hose specifications instead of choosing by the inch label alone. The application examples are routing starting points, not vehicle fitment rules.

Compatibility comes before AN size. A cutter or socket style CPE 90 degree hose end must be used with the matching CPE lined hose. Stainless braid and nylon braid describe the outer cover, not the inner liner. A PTFE fuel hose requires a PTFE specific hose end with the correct ferrule or olive. Installing a CPE hose end on PTFE hose can create a leak and a serious fuel safety hazard.

Clock the Swivel, Then Seal the 37 Degree AN Flare Correctly

A swivel hose fitting is most useful when the final outlet direction cannot be set in advance or when a fixed fitting would twist the hose during tightening. A fixed hose end is usually sufficient when the route is open, the fitting can be preclocked and the hose remains relaxed. Use the swivel for assembly and alignment only; it is not a continuously rotating union.

  1. Confirm the hose family, AN size, thread, fluid and operating limits before cutting the line.
  2. Inspect the 37 degree flare seat and keep it clean. The AN connection seals at the cone, not at the threads, so do not apply PTFE tape or thread sealant to AN flare threads. If the port is actually NPT, select the correct AN to NPT adapters and apply only the manufacturer approved sealant to the NPT end.
  3. Cut the hose square, install the correct socket, nipple and ferrule components for that hose family, then hold the fitting body with the proper wrench while tightening.
  4. Set the final outlet angle without leaving torsion in the hose. Pressure test the completed system, inspect every joint for seepage and recheck after the first heat cycle.
