What's the difference between a carbureted and EFI fuel system?

A carbureted system mixes fuel and air mechanically at low pressure (typically 5-12 PSI) and needs a simple pump and regulator.
An EFI (electronic fuel injection) system runs much higher pressure (20-120 PSI) and requires a high-flow pump, injectors, and a dedicated ECU to control fuel delivery precisely — which is why LS swap kits bundle a stronger pump and adjustable regulator by default.

  • Most naturally aspirated LS engines (LS1-LS6, up to ~500hp) run well on a 255-300LPH pump. Boosted or high-horsepower builds (600hp+) should step up to a 340-405LPH high-flow fuel pump to avoid fuel starvation under load.
